How to Choose a Digital Marketing Agency in Houston

Researching how to choose a digital marketing agency? In a market as large and competitive as Houston, your online presence correlates to proposal requests, leads, and sales conversations. For B2B and industrial firms, the stakes are even higher!

If you’re currently deciding how to hire a marketing agency for your business, this guide will show you what to look for, what to avoid, and the best questions to ask a digital marketing agency before you sign any contract.

Why Choosing the Right Digital Marketing Agency in Houston Carries Weight

Houston is one of the most competitive business environments in the country. Energy, manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, construction, and professional services all compete for digital visibility.

For B2B companies, complexity multiplies:

  • Multiple decision makers
  • Technical buyers
  • Long evaluation timelines
  • High contract values

If you’re researching how to choose a B2B digital marketing agency, industry experience should be high on your list. Just think about it: selling industrial equipment to engineers is a lot different from selling ecommerce products to average consumers.

Your Houston digital marketing agency must understand your local competition, industry dynamics, and how to structure campaigns that support long sales cycles.

What Does a Digital Marketing Agency Actually Do?

Many business owners begin with a simple search: “what does a digital marketing agency do?” Before you can decide how to hire a marketing agency, you need clarity on the services involved.

A full service agency typically supports growth across search, paid media, web performance, and content.

Here’s how those services break down:

SEO (Search Engine Optimization & AI Visibility)

SEO drives visibility when prospects actively search for your services. For B2B and industrial companies, Texas search engine optimization usually targets:

  • High intent service keywords
  • Technical product terms
  • Location based queries
  • Competitor comparisons

Effective SEO tactics are technical optimization, keyword research, link building, content development, and ongoing refinement.

If your buyers research solutions before contacting sales (which they probably are), Houston SEO services should be foundational.

PPC & Paid Advertising

Paid advertising accelerates visibility. Google ads, LinkedIn ads, ChatGPT ads, retargeting campaigns,  allow you to:

  • Capture high intent searches immediately
  • Target specific industries or job titles
  • Stay visible during long evaluation cycles

For B2B companies, Houston PPC management services often support new product launches, geographic expansion, competitive positioning, and trade show amplification.

Website Design & Optimization

Your website is your primary sales asset. Industrial and B2B buyers need a web design company that implements the following on your site:

  • Clear positioning
  • Technical depth
  • Case studies
  • Trust signals
  • Fast performance

Website optimization is not limited to aesthetics. It affects conversion rates, SEO performance, and sales enablement.

Content & Social Media Marketing

Content marketing builds authority and supports long sales cycles. For B2B companies like manufacturers, specialty chemicals suppliers, energy service firms, and infrastructure contractors, this content may include:

  • Educational blog articles
  • Technical whitepapers
  • Case studies
  • LinkedIn thought leadership
  • Industry commentary

7 Questions to Ask Before Hiring a Digital Marketing Agency

If you’re building a digital marketing agency checklist, this section is your foundation.

These are the questions to ask a digital marketing agency before committing budget. They also represent what to look for in a digital marketing agency if measurable ROI carries weight for your organization.

What industries do you specialize in?

Experience in B2B, manufacturing, industrial services, or energy carries weight. If you’re evaluating how to choose a B2B digital marketing agency, industry fluency should not be optional. Your agency should understand technical messaging, compliance requirements, and procurement processes.

PS: Ask for examples from your sector.

How do you measure ROI?

Unfortunately, traffic alone is not ROI. Also ask:

  • How do you track lead sources?
  • Do you measure cost per lead?
  • Do you connect marketing to sales outcomes?

For B2B companies, marketing must tie into CRM data and revenue reporting. If an agency cannot clearly explain attribution, reconsider.

Who will manage my account?

When deciding how to hire a marketing agency, clarify who runs your campaigns.

Questions to raise:

  • Account structure
  • Strategy ownership
  • Communication cadence
  • Turnaround times

You want direct access to experienced strategists.

What does your reporting look like?

Reporting should be structured and business-focused. You should avoid reports that highlight impressions without explaining revenue impact. Instead look for:

  • Lead volume trends
  • Conversion rates
  • Cost efficiency
  • Strategic recommendations

How long before I see results?

SEO takes time! Paid advertising can produce faster traction. Content marketing supports sustained growth. A credible answer here separates experienced agencies from sales-heavy ones.

What does a digital marketing agency in Houston cost?

Cost depends on scope, competition, and growth targets. When learning how to choose a digital marketing agency, resist the urge to compare proposals purely on price. Underfunded campaigns rarely compete in aggressive Houston markets.

Pricing expectations shown below.

Can you provide case studies or references?

This may be one of the best questions to ask a digital marketing agency. Case studies demonstrate execution (not theory). Look for proof of:

  • Lead growth
  • Improved rankings
  • Increased conversion rates
  • Industry specific results

Red Flags to Watch for When Hiring a Marketing Agency

As part of your digital marketing agency checklist, watch for these warning signs:

  • Guaranteed rankings
  • Vague deliverables
  • No clear reporting structure
  • No discussion of conversion rates
  • Heavy focus on social media followers
  • No industry experience
  • Longterm contracts without performance discussions

If you’re serious about how to hire a digital marketing agency that supports revenue growth, these red flags should slow the conversation.

How Much Does a Digital Marketing Agency Cost in Houston?

Budget is one of the most searched topics when researching how to choose a digital marketing agency.

Typical Monthly Retainers

For B2B and industrial companies in Houston, monthly retainers can range from:

  • $3,000-$5,000 for focused campaigns
  • $5,000-$10,000 for integrated multi-channel strategy
  • $10,000+ for competitive industries with aggressive growth goals

The right number depends on revenue targets and competitive pressure.

Project-Based Pricing

Project work may include:

Project pricing varies based on complexity and deliverables.

What Impacts Cost?

Several factors influence pricing:

  • Industry competitiveness
  • Geographic targeting
  • Number of services included
  • Website condition
  • Content requirements
  • Paid media budget

Manufacturing and energy companies often require deeper technical content and longer nurturing campaigns, which affects scope.

Why Cheap Agencies Cost More Long-Term

Low cost agencies frequently outsource work overseas, use generic templates, skip research, and provide minimal strategy. The unfortunate result is stalled growth and reinvestment with a stronger partner later on.

Houston-Specific Factors to Consider

Houston is not a generic market. It is industry-heavy, relationship-driven, and highly competitive. Factors to consider include:

  • Strong presence of energy and manufacturing firms
  • Large B2B service ecosystem
  • Competitive local SEO landscape
  • Industrial procurement cycles

If you’re evaluating how to choose a digital marketing agency in Houston, local industry familiarity can shorten ramp-up time and improve campaign precision.

Should You Hire a Houston Digital Marketing Agency or a National Firm?

When researching how to hire a marketing agency, you may compare local and national firms. National firms may offer brand recognition. Local agencies offer proximity and industry familiarity.

Advantages of a Houston-based agency include:

  • Familiarity with local competitors
  • Knowledge of energy and industrial markets
  • Faster communication
  • On-site meeting capability
  • Regional networking insight

For B2B companies operating in Texas, local experience often improves execution.

Final Checklist Before You Sign with Any Digital Marketing Agency

Use this digital marketing agency checklist before signing:

  • Clear scope of services
  • Defined KPIs
  • Transparent reporting schedule
  • Identified account lead
  • Realistic timeline expectations
  • Case study proof
  • Alignment with sales objectives

If these elements are unclear, you probably shouldn’t sign a contract with them.

Should AI be doing your marketing?

Why AI alone isn’t enough — and where agency expertise comes in.

For many businesses, keeping marketing in-house seems like the practical choice. With AI on the scene, it seems more cost-effective than hiring an agency and promises to keep projects moving quickly. After all, if a tool can write copy, design graphics, manage your social calendar and analyze campaign data in seconds, why wouldn’t you let it handle everything?

The challenge is that marketing isn’t just a series of tasks to check off a list. AI, for all its capabilities, can’t replace the strategy, creativity and cross-channel expertise it takes to grow a brand. Without that guidance, even the fastest, most affordable marketing efforts can fall short.

So should AI be doing your marketing? The answer is yes and no.

The limits of “good enough” marketing.

AI can make marketing look easier, but it doesn’t erase the gaps that come with relying on a single, inexperienced hire or asking a non-marketing employee to juggle tasks. These arrangements may keep projects moving, but they rarely produce the kind of coordinated, impactful marketing that fuels growth.

Here are the top five problems with “good enough,” AI-fueled marketing:

1. No clear strategic direction.

AI can produce content on demand, but it doesn’t decide what your brand should say, when to say it or how to connect the dots between campaigns. Without a strong, guiding strategy, marketing efforts can result in a haphazard mix of posts, emails and ads that don’t support measurable goals. The result? Activity without impact.

2. An inconsistent brand voice.

When messaging is created by a single marketing generalist — especially one without deep branding experience — messaging can drift from one piece to the next. AI can mimic tone in isolated pieces, but it can’t ensure your voice is applied consistently across all channels and touchpoints. This kind of inconsistency can erode customer trust and make your brand forgettable.

3. Limited creative perspective.

“AI tools should complement, not replace human creativity.”

— Chad Gilbert, VP of Content Marketing, NP Digital

A lone marketer (or a non-marketing employee) has limited bandwidth and creative diversity to draw from. AI might churn out endless variations, but without the insight to know which ones will resonate, you risk spending time and budget on campaigns that don’t connect with your audience.

4. Fragmented execution.

Effective marketing forms a cohesive ecosystem. Your campaigns, channels and messages should work together to tell one story. A single person juggling multiple responsibilities, even with AI’s help, can find it difficult to keep that ecosystem in balance. Opportunities to cross-promote, retarget or build momentum between campaigns are easily missed.

5. Reactive rather than proactive marketing.

Without dedicated expertise, marketing often becomes reactive, responding to immediate needs instead of building toward long-term growth. AI can accelerate that reactive cycle, producing more content faster — but without direction, it’s just more noise in an already crowded space.

How experts make AI work harder for you.

The smartest approach isn’t choosing between humans and AI. It’s combining the two.

“AI won’t replace humans, but humans with AI will replace humans without AI.”

— Tom Davenport, AI researcher & author

AI can move faster and process more information than any person, but it needs expert direction to ensure the work it produces supports your goals, reflects your brand and reaches the right audience. When guided by experienced marketers, AI becomes a powerful force multiplier that elevates both the quality and the efficiency of your marketing.

How AI enhances productivity.

AI can handle many of the repetitive, time-consuming tasks that slow down marketing teams. But knowing which tasks to automate and which to handle manually takes experience. Agencies can evaluate your current workflow, identify the most valuable opportunities for automation and select the right AI tools to execute them.

That might mean using AI to generate an outline of a blog post, resize campaign graphics for multiple platforms, create A/B test variations for an ad or segment an email list based on behavior and preferences. By automating these routine processes, agencies free up time for the high-value work AI can’t replicate: strategy, creative concept development and campaign refinement.

Brand consistency across every channel with AI.

AI can produce an impressive amount of content in seconds, but speed without oversight can easily lead to brand drift. Without the guardrails of a clear voice, tone and style, messaging can start to sound generic, disconnected or off-brand.

An agency provides that critical layer of review and refinement, ensuring that every piece of AI-assisted content is not only accurate but also aligned with your brand’s personality, values and messaging framework. This means your social media posts, email campaigns, paid ads, blog articles and landing pages all tell the same story — and reinforce it in a way that builds trust over time.

33% of businesses report that brand consistency increases revenue by at least 20%1

Data turned into action.

AI is excellent at producing dashboards, charts and detailed reports. But more data doesn’t automatically lead to better decisions. Without interpretation, it’s just numbers on a screen.

Experienced marketers know how to dig into AI-generated insights to uncover what’s truly driving performance. They can spot patterns that suggest shifts in customer behavior, diagnose why a campaign is underperforming and identify new opportunities for engagement. Just as importantly, they can translate those insights into clear, actionable next steps — adjusting creative, refining targeting or reallocating budget to maximize ROI.

The Best of Both Worlds.

AI won’t replace skilled marketers, but skilled marketers who know how to use AI can replace outdated, inefficient processes. This combination gives your business faster execution, better insights and more impactful campaigns.

Bandwagon Advertising: A Complete Marketing Guide

Bandwagon advertising shows up in marketing cycles again and again. In recent years, it has become more prevalent due to the rise of social media and word of mouth marketing. At its core, this tactic plays on a simple idea: people often take cues from other people when making decisions.

What is Bandwagon Advertising?

Bandwagon advertising is a persuasion tactic that highlights popularity or widespread adoption to influence decisions. The message is simple. Many people are already doing this so you probably should too.

The term itself comes from 19th century political campaigns, where public displays of support were used to signal momentum. Campaign organizers encouraged people to quite literally jump onto a bandwagon to show alignment with a winning side. The language stuck because the behavior worked! Visible support attracted more support.

The bandwagon approach differs from feature-based advertising. Instead of focusing on product details, it focuses on participation. The product becomes validated by the crowd rather than by specs or claims.

Common signals include phrases like:

  • Join thousands of customers
  • The most used platform in our category
  • Everyone is switching
  • Trending now

These phrases are rarely accidental. They are designed to reduce friction by suggesting the decision has already been made by others.

Bandwagon Advertising: B2B Edition

Bandwagon tactics are not limited to consumer brands. In B2B they often appear as:

  • Customer count claims
  • Industry adoption language
  • Logos of well known clients
  • Usage metrics tied to peers

In B2B buying cycles this works best early in the funnel. It helps a solution get shortlisted. It does not close deals on its own. Buyers still need proof technical fit and internal buy in.

The Bandwagon Effect in 3 Parts

Ever wonder why “bestseller” badges and sold out signs make you click “buy” faster than a rational “Pros and Cons” list? The bandwagon effect as we know it tends to follow a predictable pattern.

1. Social Proof

People assume popularity signals value, because it feels unlikely that so many people could all be wrong at once. When buyers see long lines, high ratings, or “bestseller” tags, they treat these as evidence that the choice is pre-vetted. Risk appears lower even when the product is unfamiliar, especially if the visible crowd includes people they trust, such as peers, influencers, or recognizable brands.

2. Fear of Missing Out

Once popularity is established, the next reaction is concern. Buyers will wonder if they are falling behind, AKA FOMO. This is common in fast moving markets like software, finance, and digital services, or even consumer goods.

3. Faster Decisions

Together these combined forces will reduce research time, in turn replacing it with a quick “go with the group” judgment. The crowd becomes a shortcut, allowing people to skip deeper evaluation and rely on visible choices made by others. Decisions move faster because uncertainty feels resolved. This speed is the appeal…and also the danger.

Bandwagon Advertising vs Brand Voice

Bandwagon messaging can clash with brand identity if it is forced. Short term attention is easy to gain, but long term trust is harder. When popularity claims feel exaggerated or vague, audiences notice.

Strong brands use bandwagon tactics as support, not as the main argument. Popularity should confirm value (not replace it). Problems usually show up when brands:

  • Inflate numbers
  • Rely on buzz without substance
  • Chase trends unrelated to their positioning

Bandwagon Advertising Examples Over the Years

Real world bandwagon advertising works best when the audience can see participation happening around them. The strongest examples do not rely on generic popularity claims. They make the crowd visible.

Spotify Wrapped

Spotify Wrapped is one of the clearest modern examples of bandwagon advertising done right.

At the end of every year Spotify releases personalized listening summaries for users. On the surface this feels like a personal feature, but in reality it is a mass participation event. Social feeds fill with Wrapped screenshots and stories. Users who are not on Spotify are reminded very quickly that they are outside the group.

Spotify doesn’t even have to convince their audience that “everyone is using us.” Millions of users are saying it for them!

spotify wrapped bandwagon advertising lesson

Apple iPhone Launches

Apple product launches rely heavily on bandwagon signals even before the product is widely available. Preorders often sell out quickly and physical lines form at retail locations, which then drives media coverage that emphasizes adoption speed rather than technical specifications. Each of these signals reinforces the idea that this is the phone people are switching to.

apple iphone

Ever since the start, TikTok trends have functioned as real time bandwagon advertising. When a sound format or challenge gains traction, it spreads because users see participation everywhere. Brands that join early can really benefit from that momentum. Brands that join too late often look forced.

Folgers used bandwagon advertising long before digital metrics existed. In the 1950’s, Folgers positioned itself as the most popular coffee in America. The claim was not tied to flavor or sourcing, but the fact that if most households were drinking Folgers, then choosing it felt safe and familiar. This worked because coffee was a habitual, relatively low risk purchase. In situations like this, bandwagon choices are usually less about finding the best option and more about avoiding a bad one.

When Bandwagon Advertising is Not the Right Fit

This approach can backfire in situations that require careful independent evaluation. Here are some examples:

  • High risk purchases, where people usually want to slow down, ask questions, and think through what could go wrong.
  • Niche or expert driven markets, where decisions tend to be based on experience or technical knowledge rather than what everyone else is doing.
  • Brands positioned around exclusivity or discretion, where being popular can actually make the brand less appealing.

In these cases, popularity signals can weaken credibility rather than support it.

Construction Marketing Ideas to Prioritize in 2026

Is your construction business focused on commercial work and servicing other businesses?  Do you build retail establishments, restaurants, storefronts or office buildings?  Maybe you’re dedicated to building high-end residential homes or home remodeling. Regardless of what type of business you have, the construction marketing ideas listed below will help to promote your brand and generate new clients in 2026.

How to Market a Construction Company

Marketing the construction business online is a step that will grow the company. The challenge is making sure you’re in the best position to capture new leads, regardless of where they may be in the buying cycle.

For example, your potential clients could be starting the process and determining what the home renovations will be. That is called the top of the funnel. Others may have tried remodeling themselves, failed, and now they need help. Some will have a great idea of what they want, how much they would like to spend and a time frame when they want it done. All of these are qualified construction leads, but they are in different stages of the buying cycle.

The right digital marketing strategy might contain the following elements:

Construction Website Design

Website Design for the Construction Industry

Digital marketing starts with a well-structured website. In 2025, mobile responsiveness, accessibility, and speed are necessities. Your site needs to load quickly on any device, adapt to mobile-first indexing, and meet Google’s UX benchmarks like Core Web Vitals. These day, you’re not just competing with other contractors…you’re also competing with user impatience!

For construction companies, the most visited section is almost always the photo gallery. People want to see what you can do before they reach out. But don’t stop at before-and-after shots. Push this further.

Use the gallery to tell the full story of a project:

  • Include timestamps or timelines to show progress
  • Annotate images with product specs and design notes
  • Layer in short-form video walkthroughs or drone footage
  • Add client testimonials next to completed project visuals

Static image dumps don’t cut it anymore. Interactive case studies and documented workflows give visitors what they actually want: proof you can execute and context around how you work.

Also, make sure your site includes:

  • Clear messaging by service type and geography (e.g., “Kitchen Remodeling in Houston”)
  • Click-to-call buttons and quote request forms that actually work on mobile
  • Schema markup for services, locations, and reviews

Before launch, use this 8 point website launch checklist.

SEO for Construction

Along with detailed images, you’ll need informative and relevant content. Write content that solves problems, answers questions gives examples and showcases the expertise of the company.

Start a blog section of your website that can be used to publish articles that support the main services you provide. If one of the main services is kitchen remodeling, a good supporting blog article could be, “The benefits of remodeling your kitchen and bathroom at the same time.”  As the name implies, this type of article would be written to encourage readers to do both at the same time.

One of the main benefits of blogging for marketing is improved business lead generation. But in 2025, content alone won’t carry your SEO.

Here’s what you need to compete:

  • EEAT content – Your content should demonstrate Experience, Expertise, Authority, and Trust. Don’t publish generic tips straight from ChatGPT. Use real examples from past jobs and be specific about materials, pricing, and timelines. This type of content not only helps you rank but also improves your visibility with AI-powered search experiences, which rely on high-quality source content.
  • Google Business Profile – Keep it updated with photos, Q&As, services, and regular posts. This supports visibility in Google’s map pack and AI-enhanced local searches, which are gaining traction.
  • Local landing pages – Create separate service pages for each city or area you serve. For example, “Bathroom Remodeling in The Woodlands” should have its own dedicated page.
  • Schema markup – Add structured data to highlight your reviews, services, business info, and service areas. In 2025, schema markup is not only useful for search engines, but it also feeds structured results to AI assistants and generative search engines that rely on schema to pull trusted business data.
  • Internal linking – Connect blog posts and service pages using anchor text that reflects how people search. This supports SEO and guides site visitors toward conversion points.
  • Technical SEO – Don’t forget the backend work. Link building is still very important in 2025, especially backlinks from credible sources like trade associations, vendor partners, and local directories. Also focus on fixing broken internal links, submitting updated XML sitemaps, using proper redirects, and compressing images for faster load times. These technical elements still influence visibility and crawlability.

Search algorithms continue to evolve, but the core idea hasn’t changed: create helpful, relevant content that demonstrates authority in your field. That’s what earns trust (both from Google and from modern AI-driven search tools).

PPC for Construction

If budget allows, consider a supporting pay per click campaign. This will allow you to strategically target certain areas of town with specific messaging and offers.

For example, if you have identified a wealthier area of the city that has lots of older homes that need remodeling, you can display ads to people in that area. Using Google Ads, you can select a zip code and compose ads that speak directly to those people and offer the services you have.

sample construction ad

MARION Tip: Enable search ads for the zip code where your current construction job is. The ads will be displayed to people who are in the immediate area where you are working. If they can see your crew, professionalism and realize that you also service their area, you have a higher likelihood of closing the deal. Good news is…you’re already in the area. This may reduce the need to transport equipment and labor across town.

Social Media Marketing for Construction

It’s imperative that your construction business engages in social media marketing. At a minimum, set up profiles on Facebook, X, Instagram & LinkedIn. Use the consistent branding discussed earlier and create posts that showcase the business expertise, videos, images and latest construction jobs. In the captions of these posts, include descriptions about the products and services used. Make sure the social media profile is fully complete with the company biography, website links, and contact information.

But the real opportunity in 2025 is short-form video. Think:

  • 15-30 second walkthroughs of finished remodels
  • “What we would’ve done differently” voiceovers for transparency
  • Time-lapse footage of a kitchen or bath build
  • On-site Q&As or team introductions

MARION Tip: Conduct a search on each platform for your services and follow who is talking about it. For example, search Facebook for the term “kitchen remodeling.”  Follow every result that isn’t a business that is in your locality. If they asked a question, business or not, answer it, then follow them. Repeat for the other social media platforms.

Email Marketing for Construction

Monthly email blasts still have their place, but the more impactful strategy in 2025 is automation and personalization based on real client behavior. Rather than just sending newsletters, build trigger-based sequences tied to your services and the timing of past jobs.

Use your CRM or email marketing tool to segment by past project type, install date, or location. For example, if you installed new floors for a client six months ago, schedule a follow-up email that checks in and recommends a seasonal upgrade.

Hey [first name], how’s the flooring holding up? If your kitchen is next on the list, we’re currently offering a 15% loyalty discount for returning customers.

These automated sequences are far more effective than generic blasts, and so much easier to manage once they’re built!

Email is also a good place to resurface content they may have missed:

  • Case studies with before/after results
  • Video walkthroughs of projects like theirs
  • Seasonal offers tied to weather, school calendars, or tax season
construction marketing ideas

Branding for Construction

It seems so cliché, but it is very true. Develop a company brand that people will understand quickly. While this isn’t a necessity, it’s important to clarify that if the name is abstract, people may initially struggle to understand if your company can do what they are looking for. I believe this also depends on where you service clients. If you provide a nationwide service and have a sizeable advertising budget, then an abstract business name and branding could work. Mainly because you have the service area, as well as the resources (time and money) to manage it and promote the new brand.

However, if you are smaller residential construction business, servicing a certain locality, then you may want to choose a name that closely mirrors your specializations. Service focused business name examples would be;

  • Houston Home Renovations
  • Kitchen’s, Bathroom’s & More
  • Katy Home Additions

These are all fictitious company names. The point is, include the core service in the company name when possible. Include it in the company tagline too, especially if it isn’t in the main business name. You could try something like Jim’s Construction – Home Renovations since 1990.

After the name and tagline are determined, choose colors. For the sake of consistent branding, use these same colors everywhere the brand is displayed. Use it offline (vehicle wraps, business cards, flyers, company clothing, commercial signage) in places where potential clients will see it. Be sure to remain consistent with online advertising too. Use the same branding on the company website, social media, and email signatures.

Consistent use of the same look, feel, and imagery, plus providing a great product/service is how you develop a brand that people will remember and want to use again.

B2B Social Media Marketing Strategy & Guide

In this day and age, B2B buyers are researching online before they ever speak to sales. They’re watching videos, checking out LinkedIn posts, and looking at what their peers are saying. In other words, social media is where your brand credibility begins!

What You’ll Learn in This Guide

Social Media Marketing in B2B

Social media plays a long game in B2B marketing. Not only does it make you visible online, but it also supports your lead gen efforts and shows your credibility. The more your content speaks to different buyers at different points in their decision process, the more helpful (and memorable) your brand becomes.

B2B vs. B2C Social Media: 2 Very Different Approaches

While B2C marketing often emphasizes emotion and impulse, B2B focuses on education and trust. B2B buying decisions involve multiple stakeholders, long timelines, and higher price tags. Your content needs to inform, reassure, and demonstrate long-term value.

Ultimate Lead Magnet Checklist - CTA banner

Building a B2B Social Media Marketing Strategy

If your company hasn’t been active on social media, getting started can feel unfamiliar. That’s normal. Many B2B organizations rely on word-of-mouth or traditional tactics and view social platforms as optional. But in today’s buying environment, where research starts online, having no presence can hurt credibility.

Here are the steps to help your team get started:

1. Set Clear Objectives

Social media marketing business goals typically fall into four main categories. It’s important to have clarity on which one you’re prioritizing, so you can better shape your content and measure your progress.

  • Lead Generation: Drive MQLs through LinkedIn forms, gated content, and demo requests.
  • Brand Awareness: Stay top-of-mind through regular posting and thought leadership.
  • Thought Leadership: Position your executives and team members as go-to resources.
  • Client Retention: Use content to reaffirm value and build ongoing trust.

2. Know Your Audience

Before posting anything, it’s worth figuring out who you’re talking to. In B2B, some folks influence the decision, others sign the contract. Each one looks for different info.

Building out a few buyer personas helps here. What do they care about? What kind of problems are they dealing with? What would actually help them do their job better?

Think about where they spend time, too. LinkedIn might be a given, but some will also check out product videos on YouTube or scan X for updates.

3. Choose the Right Platforms

  • Do you regularly publish case studies, white papers, or thought leadership? LinkedIn is your go-to platform for reaching professionals and decision-makers.
  • Want to share quick updates or join industry conversations in real time? X (Twitter) works well for timely commentary and event-based interaction.
  • Need to showcase product functionality or explain complex topics? YouTube is ideal for in-depth demos, interviews, and how-to content.
  • Looking to show the people behind your brand or highlight culture? Consider TikTok, Instagram, or Facebook to humanize your company (when appropriate for your audience.)

4. Content Strategy

Once you’ve chosen the right platforms, the next step is figuring out what to post. Your content should reflect your audience’s priorities, your business goals, and the tone that fits your brand.

Format Mix

  • Blog shares
  • Infographics
  • Short-form and long-form videos
  • Client testimonials
  • Case studies

User-Generated Content

Encourage your team and happy clients to post their own experiences with your brand. It builds credibility and broadens your reach.

Seasonal Content

Holidays and seasonal themes are a great way to show some personality without straying from your brand. “12 Days of Industry Tips” or “New Year, New Goals” campaigns are great examples of staying active and relevant.

5. Consistency and Scheduling

Consistency is key! Use a content calendar to organize your weekly and monthly topics. For example, aim to post 3-5 times per week on LinkedIn, and adjust frequency based on platform.

It’s also important to mix evergreen content (like how-to guides and FAQs) with timely, industry-relevant posts that reflect what’s happening now.

6. Engagement & Community Building

This side of social media management is more common in B2C, but that doesn’t mean it’s irrelevant in B2B. Engaging with your audience (publicly or in smaller groups) can create space for future business conversations.

  • Respond quickly to comments and DMs
  • Build and manage LinkedIn Groups
  • Use niche hashtags to get in front of the right audience

7. Paid Social Advertising

Paid social isn’t limited to LinkedIn. While it’s often the top choice for targeting professionals, other platforms can also deliver results depending on your goals and audience.

  • LinkedIn Ads: Target by industry, job title, company size, and more.
  • Facebook Ads: Great for brand awareness, retargeting, and promoting case studies or events to broader business audiences.
  • YouTube: Strong option for video explainers, testimonials, and long-form educational content that supports the buyer journey.

When starting out, approach budget planning with a test-and-learn mindset. Invest modestly, analyze results, and scale what proves effective.

It’s also a good idea to use retargeting campaigns, allowing you to re-engage users who’ve interacted with your website or other content.

8. How to Measure Campaign Success

KPIs to Track

  • Impressions
  • Engagement rate
  • Leads generated
  • Conversion rate

Tools

  • Native analytics (LinkedIn, Meta)
  • Third-party reporting tools (HubSpot, Hootsuite, Google Analytics)

What You’ll Learn from a Social Media Audit (+ Free Checklist)

Most businesses are active on social media. But ask yourself this: do you really know what’s working? Are your posts bringing in the right people?

A social media audit can help answer these questions for you. It gives you a clear view of your current performance, identify what needs fixing, and shows you what’s already doing well.

What is a Social Media Audit?

A social media audit is a detailed review of your business’s social profiles and performance. It answers questions like:

  • Where are you posting?
  • Who’s engaging?
  • What kind of content gets results?
  • Are you using your time and budget in the right places?

Contrary to popular belief, it’s more than counting likes or followers. A good audit connects your social efforts to business goals, like lead generation or brand awareness.

At MARION, we recommend doing a quick audit once a quarter, and a deeper review before launching new campaigns or changing your content strategy.

What You’ll Learn from a Social Media Audit

A social audit can tell you a lot more than you think. Here are some of the big takeaways:

Which Platforms Are Worth Your Time

Not every social platform delivers the same value. You might be putting effort into Instagram, but all your leads are coming from LinkedIn. Or you may find that X (Twitter) gets plenty of impressions but zero clicks. An audit helps you zero in on where your time and content are actually paying off.

What Content Performs Best (and Worst)

Not all posts are created equal. An audit helps you pinpoint which content types (videos, graphics, links, or simple text) resonate most with your audience. You’ll also see what’s underperforming, so you can stop wasting time on formats that fall flat.

Example: A local contractor may find that project before-and-after images outperform every other post type. That’s a sign to post more of them!

Who’s Engaging with Your Brand

Knowing your audience is key. With the right audit tools, you’ll uncover valuable insights about who’s liking, sharing, and commenting on your posts (their age, location, interests, and more). This lets you tailor content more effectively.

Where Your Followers Are Coming From

When someone clicks through to your site from a social post, that’s momentum you want to understand and build on. Are they coming from boosted posts, organic shares, or maybe even your profile links?

With this data in hand, you can pinpoint what’s creating action and what’s not. If your Facebook content is generating strong referral traffic while Instagram barely registers, it’s worth adjusting your content plan or ad budget accordingly.

If Your Branding Is Consistent Across Channels

Scroll through your social accounts and check:

  • Profile photos and banners: Are they updated and aligned?
  • Bios: Do they match your tone, services, and message?
  • Post visuals: Are your fonts, colors, and styles consistent?

Tip: Your audit should include a branding snapshot for each platform. Uniformity builds trust, even across different audiences.

What Your Competitors Are Doing Better (or Worse)

Reviewing a few of your competitors’ profiles offers useful perspective. You might notice they post more often, but get less engagement. Or maybe they’ve nailed a tone of voice that gets conversations started. Seeing what others do helps you spot gaps or opportunities in your own strategy.

Common Issues a Social Media Audit Can Find

You might be surprised what pops up during a social media marketing audit. Here are some common problems:

  • Inactive or duplicate profiles
  • Off-brand visuals or outdated bios
  • Slow or inconsistent response times to comments and messages
  • Too much promotional content, not enough value or engagement
  • Missing contact info, broken links, or incomplete profiles

These issues are easy to miss day-to-day but can drag down your performance long-term.

Social Media Audit

Get the Free Social Media Audit Checklist

Not sure where to start with your social media marketing audit? Use this quick checklist, it’s a simple way to get clarity before making major changes to your social strategy.

  1. Review each profile photo, banner, and bio to make sure everything is current and on-brand
  2. Check that contact info and website links are accurate and working
  3. Look at the last 3 months of engagement: which platforms are performing best?
  4. Identify which types of posts get the most likes, comments, and shares
  5. Make sure you’re not only posting promotional content (add tips, updates, or behind-the-scenes moments)
  6. Check that you’re using hashtags effectively to expand reach
  7. Review your audience demographics: who’s actually engaging?
  8. Check your branding across platforms: same tone, visuals, and messaging?
  9. Take a peek at 2-3 competitors: what are they doing that you could learn from?
  10. Choose one or two things to fix or improve this month – and repeat the audit quarterly!

This checklist gives you a fast, surface-level view of how your social media is doing. But there’s a lot more that goes into a thorough audit, including reviewing historical trends, analyzing paid performance, identifying content gaps, assessing follower quality, and measuring how your efforts stack up against industry benchmarks.

Want a deeper look at your strategy and how to make it work harder for your business? MARION’s digital marketing agency experts can do a full audit for you, pinpoint what’s working, and help you build a plan that gets results.

How the Houston Rodeo’s Advertising Ropes in Crowds Year After Year

The heartbeat of Houston reverberates through the dust clouds kicked up at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, an iconic event that consistently ropes in massive crowds year after year. As experienced marketing creatives in Houston, the team at MARION has had the privilege of witnessing firsthand the marketing brilliance behind this annual spectacle.

Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Success

In 2022, the Houston Rodeo had an incredible year, pulling in a whopping $190 million in revenue. It’s a testament to the event’s popularity and the fantastic experiences it offers to the community.

2023 was another huge hit, bringing together over 2.5 million attendees! The exciting mix of rodeo fun, great entertainment, and community spirit made it a must-attend event for folks in and around Houston.

Marketing the Houston Rodeo

As many of us already know, the Houston Rodeo is a cultural phenomenon, blending traditional rodeo events, world-class entertainment, and a carnival atmosphere. But what keeps this colossal event at the forefront of the city’s consciousness? It’s the rodeo’s unwavering commitment to strategic advertising.

Houston skyline

Multiple Demographic Appeal

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo isn’t only about bull riding and country music. It brings together people from all backgrounds. Some come for the action-packed rodeo events. Others love the concerts, carnival rides, or family exhibits. And let’s be honest—the food is a huge draw. No matter what brings people in, the event keeps them coming back. That’s why rodeo advertising works. It reaches a wide audience with different interests.

Scholarships & Grants

The Houston Rodeo’s annual distribution of millions of dollars in scholarships serves as a marketing strategy by not only demonstrating a commitment to community welfare and education but also fostering a positive and loyal relationship with the local population.

This philanthropic effort not only enhances the rodeo’s reputation but also generates positive publicity, attracting sponsors and attendees who appreciate the organization’s dedication to supporting educational opportunities for the community’s youth. When people see an event investing in the future, they support it!

Partnerships & Sponsors

The Houston Rodeo brings in major sponsors like Coca-Cola and Verizon, but local businesses play a huge role too. National brands add credibility and funding, while hometown sponsors make the event personal. When a Houston-based company partners with the rodeo, it deepens its roots in the community. Rodeo advertising creates an opportunity to connect with an audience that’s already engaged.

Diverse Entertainer Lineup

Country, hip-hop, Tejano, pop; the Houston Rodeo lineup has something for everyone. A mix of artists means more ticket sales, media coverage, and social media buzz. Every night draws in a different crowd, keeping energy high throughout the event. For businesses, rodeo advertising taps into that excitement, giving brands exposure to thousands of attendees from all over.

Houston Rodeo

Pre-Rodeo Events

Engaging activities like the Annual Go Texan Parade and Bar-B-Que Contest generate positive word-of-mouth advertising. Attendees share their experiences with friends and family, creating a buzz that extends beyond the event itself, effectively promoting the rodeo.

Additionally, these pre-rodeo events typically attract media coverage, providing the Houston Rodeo with additional exposure. News outlets — both local and potentially national — cover these festivities, further amplifying the rodeo’s reach and generating interest among a broader audience.

How to reach your audience (without a super bowl budget)

High-impact, low-budget methods that drive results.

It’s hard to decide what we love more about the Super Bowl — the game or the ads. Seeing what companies do with massive advertising budgets can provide creative inspiration, a preview of trends for the year ahead and, of course, entertainment.

Here, we give you our playbook for marketing that helps you connect with customers throughout the sales cycle — from first down to touchdown. And here’s the really great news: you can run these plays without a million-dollar budget.

The answer is: you can’t. So, here’s how your business can benefit from email marketing plus a few more ways your email marketing can be more effective and cut through the clutter.

Zero in on your target audience.

When resources are limited, the key to success is focusing on the right audience instead of trying to reach everyone. By understanding who your ideal customers are — where they spend their time, what matters most to them, and how they engage — you can allocate your budget more effectively and ensure your message resonates.

To achieve this, start by exploring the information you already have. Review your social media platforms for insights into engagement. What content do customers engage with the most? What channels do they spend the most time on, and when are they the most active? Investigating your email marketing analytics can also provide useful insights. Focus on data such as open rates and click-throughs, with particular attention paid to the pages of your website they click on the most. It’s also important to understand how customers behave after you’ve guided them to your site. Heat map tools such as Hotjar and Microsoft Clarity can help you to analyze trends and patterns in user behavior — and tweak your website to make it easier to use, if necessary.

Once you have a clear picture of your audience, it’s time to craft messaging and campaigns tailored to their specific needs and interests.

Leverage Social Media (Strategically).

Social media is a powerful tool for building connections, sparking engagement and amplifying your brand — often with minimal cost. Standing out doesn’t require a massive budget, but it does demand consistency, creativity and intentional strategy. By focusing your efforts where your audience is most active, you can create meaningful interactions that strengthen relationships and grow your presence.

To make the most of social media, share content that resonates with your audience and provides real value. Short videos, infographics, behind-the-scenes glimpses and client success stories are great ways to engage followers and showcase your brand’s personality. By maintaining a steady flow of authentic, relevant content, you’ll build trust and keep your audience coming back for more.

Through giveaways and strategic influencer partnerships, we helped to expose unfamiliar audiences to our client Kountry Boys’ products.

Embrace Email Marketing.

Email marketing remains one of the most effective and budget-friendly ways to nurture leads and keep your brand top-of-mind. Unlike other channels, email allows you to communicate directly and personally with your audience, delivering valuable content right to their inbox. With a well-crafted message, you can build relationships, drive engagement and encourage action — all without the need for a massive budget.

To make your email marketing impactful, focus on delivering regular updates, promotions or thought leadership that resonates with your audience. Use attention-grabbing subject lines, clear calls to action and visually appealing designs that are easy to navigate, especially on mobile devices. By consistently offering value and maintaining a polished, professional format, your email campaigns can strengthen connections and keep your brand at the forefront of your audience’s mind.

Get creative with content Marketing.

Content marketing is a powerful way to build trust and position your business as an authority in your industry. By creating valuable and engaging content — such as blogs, landing pages and case studies — you can educate and entertain your audience while showcasing your expertise. The added bonus? Great content is shareable, helping you expand your reach and attract new potential customers organically.

To make content marketing work, focus on solving your audience’s problems and answering their questions. Whether it’s through blog posts, how-to guides or bite-sized tips for social media, your content should deliver value in a way that resonates with your audience. By staying creative, relevant and consistent, you can stay top-of-mind with your audience and drive meaningful results for your business.

We created informational landing pages — such as this one on the subject of severe autism — to help users searching for information about the condition to connect with our client, Nexus Health Systems.

Be bold and authentic.

The most memorable Super Bowl commercials stand out not because of their big budgets, but because they’re gutsy and authentic. You don’t need millions of dollars to make an impact — just a willingness to tell your story in a relatable, genuine way. When your message feels real, it resonates with your audience and sets you apart from the competition.

Start by leaning into what makes your brand unique. Share your history, highlight customer testimonials or showcase fun, behind-the-scenes content that brings personality to your business. People connect with authenticity, and seeing the faces, stories and values behind a brand builds trust and loyalty. Being bold doesn’t mean being flashy; it means being confident in your business’ identity and the value you offer.

At the end of the day, connecting with your audience doesn’t require the scale of a Super Bowl ad. It takes intention and a focus on what truly matters: building genuine relationships. Because when it comes to marketing, real connection always beats flash.

Top 10 Channels Used in Integrated Marketing Campaigns

One of the best ways to ensure you have a consistent marketing strategy is to engage in integrated marketing.

But what is integrated marketing? It’s the process of unifying various advertising mediums in order to seamlessly deliver a cohesive message. This means that whether you visit the organization’s website, browse its social media accounts, or receive its emails, you’ll see similar content that demonstrates the brand’s core values or messaging.

So what does this look like in practice, and what popular channels can be used to accomplish an integrated marketing campaign?

The Effectiveness of Integrated Marketing Campaigns

Integrated marketing campaigns are highly effective for several different reasons. Since you’re using multiple channels to communicate with your customer base, you’ll reach a larger audience than you would with a single channel. Most of your audience will also likely see your messaging on various platforms, which keeps your company top-of-mind for customers who may need your products or services in the future.

Furthermore, an integrated marketing strategy can save you money since you can reuse much of the advertising content you create on different platforms. Minor modifications can keep content fresh and ensure it’s suitable for a particular channel.

Top 10 Integrated Marketing Channels

Integrated Marketing Channels Graphic Chart

There are several integrated marketing channels to choose from. Here are ten of the most common that companies rely on.

  1. Email Marketing
  2. Social Media
  3. Search Engine Optimization
  4. PPC Advertising
  5. Content Marketing
  6. Direct Mail Marketing
  7. Traditional Marketing
  8. Event Marketing
  9. Public Relations
  10. Word-of-Mouth Marketing

1. Email Marketing

Email marketing is a time-tested integrated marketing tool that continues to be one of the most effective for driving conversions and building brand awareness. It lets you communicate directly with people who have signed up for your marketing list.

With the right tools, you can tailor your emails to match each customer’s interests and preferences, making your messages more relevant and impactful.

2. Social Media (Organic and Paid)

Social media platforms are powerful tools for displaying ads and content to your audience, including your followers and others who match your target. You can use your social media accounts organically to engage with followers or invest in paid ads to expand your reach. Organic content helps build trust with your current customer base, while paid social media ads are ideal for attracting new followers, increasing conversions, and boosting brand awareness.

A successful integrated marketing strategy includes both organic and paid social media efforts. Organic content can help nurture customer relationships, while paid ads drive wider visibility and more conversions.

Here’s how you can get the most out of social media marketing:

  • Organic Content: Builds trust and keeps your current audience engaged.
  • Paid Ads: Helps grow your reach, increase brand recognition, and boost conversions.
  • Targeted Campaigns: Ensure you’re reaching the right audience through precise targeting.
  • Content Variety: Use a mix of visuals, posts, stories, and videos to keep your audience interested.

By using both organic and paid strategies, you can connect with customers at different stages in their buying journey and keep your marketing efforts consistent across multiple channels.

3. Search Engine Optimization

Search engine optimization (SEO) is all about making sure your website shows up when people search for what you offer. It’s like putting your business on the map, but online. By using the right keywords and optimizing your site’s structure, you increase your chances of being seen by potential customers. It’s not an overnight thing, but over time, good SEO builds trust and helps your site rank higher in search results, which means more visibility and traffic.

Plus, it’s a long-term strategy – once you’re ranking, it’s easier to stay there.

4. PPC Advertising

Pay-per-click (PPC) advertising involves placing ads where your audience is likely to see them, such as on search engines. While many advertising options require paying for mere placement, PPC only bills you when a customer clicks on your ads. Though its costs can escalate quickly, PPC advertising benefits companies seeking quick sales or other conversions.

5. Content Marketing

Content marketing is all about creating useful, relevant content for your target customers. It’s a way to show that you understand their needs and can offer real solutions. Whether it’s blogs, videos, or infographics, content helps build your credibility in your industry.

In a B2B integrated marketing strategy, content can position your business as an authority, helping you stand out from competitors. By consistently sharing valuable content, you can attract more organic traffic and keep customers engaged across multiple channels – like your website, social media, and email.

Ultimately, content marketing is about building trust and loyalty, leading to more sales and stronger relationships with your audience. It’s a powerful tool that supports your overall marketing efforts and helps you connect with customers in a meaningful way.

6. Direct Mail Marketing

Direct mail marketing is ideal for companies with customers in a limited geographic area. Using this channel, you can mail advertisements directly to clients who fit your target audience and are most likely to need your products and services.

For instance, a local restaurant may use direct mail to advertise its opening day to people within a five-mile radius.

7. Traditional Marketing

Traditional marketing encompasses a variety of advertising techniques, like commercials, print collateral, and billboards. While traditional marketing is losing ground to the popularity and potential of digital strategies, many brands still incorporate it into their integrated marketing plans.

8. Event Marketing

In event marketing, a company showcases its products and services at a tradeshow or another similar event. Event marketing often combines information and learning with product demonstrations.

In this format, it’s common for a company representative to speak at the main event, then later demonstrate the organization’s products on the trade show floor.

9. Public Relations

Public relations includes press releases and public company meetings, like shareholder events. Press releases are ideal when the company introduces a new product or has a significant change they want their clientele to know about. Ideally, news organizations, websites, or journals will pick up these press releases and reprint them, increasing your brand visibility and potentially growing your client base.

10. Word-of-Mouth Marketing

Word-of-mouth marketing has always been the most powerful form of marketing because it gives individuals a chance to spread the word to their acquaintances and give an honest recommendation, usually without the interference of the brand. It’s, therefore, crucial for companies seeking to expand their audience and enhance revenue.

Influencer marketing is a form of word-of-mouth advertising, but it’s less powerful than genuine, organic word-of-mouth. For example, organizations can pay for a partnership with an Instagram or TikTok influencer, using the influencer to promote their products or services to their audience.

It’s difficult, however, to control word-of-mouth marketing enough for integrated marketing strategies. Brands must rely on more involved (and therefore less effective) approaches, such as influencer marketing, to deliver a cohesive message.

The Value of Digital Marketing Audits

Digital marketing audits are an essential process for any business looking to evaluate its strategies and uncover ways to improve performance. Think of it as taking a moment to step back, analyze your efforts, and identify opportunities to grow your online presence.

By systematically examining your campaigns, channels, and platforms, you can create a clearer path forward for achieving your marketing goals.

What is a Digital Marketing Audit?

A digital marketing audit involves analyzing all aspects of your online marketing efforts to determine what’s working well, what needs adjustment, and where there are opportunities for growth. It includes everything from website performance and SEO to social media engagement and paid advertising campaigns.

This process helps you gain clarity on your strengths and areas for improvement, while also ensuring that your strategies align with your business goals.

Why Conduct a Digital Marketing Audit?

Digital marketing is a constantly evolving field, which means that what worked last year (or even last month) might not be as effective today. Conducting an audit allows you to:

  1. Evaluate Performance. Understand how your campaigns are performing and where adjustments can yield better results.
  2. Stay Competitive. Gain insights into how your competitors are approaching digital marketing.
  3. Increase ROI. Use data to make informed decisions about where to allocate resources for maximum return.
  4. Refine Your Strategy. Adjust your marketing tactics to better reach your audience and meet their needs.

What Does a Digital Marketing Audit Include?

A full digital marketing audit can give you a clear picture of how all your marketing efforts are performing together. It’s like a health check for your entire digital strategy, covering everything from SEO and content to social media and paid campaigns. However, you don’t always need to tackle everything at once. Sometimes, focusing on individual audits for specific areas — like your website, email marketing, or social media — can be a smart way to start addressing problem spots or fine-tuning a particular aspect of your marketing.

Whether you’re diving into a full audit or honing in on a specific area, the goal remains the same: to uncover what’s working, identify areas for improvement, and create actionable steps to move your business forward. Below, we’ll break down the key areas a digital marketing audit can include, so you can decide the best approach for your needs.

1. Website Analysis

Your website is often the first impression potential customers have of your business. A website audit evaluates its design, functionality, and user experience.

Key areas to examine:

  • Loading speed – How quickly does your site load on desktop and mobile devices?
  • Navigation – Is your site easy for users to explore and find information?
  • Mobile-friendliness – Does your site display properly on smartphones and tablets?
  • Conversion elements – Are calls to action (CTAs) and forms optimized for engagement?
  • Security – Is your site using HTTPS, and are security measures in place to protect user data?

2. SEO Assessment

Search engine optimization plays a critical role in driving organic traffic to your site. An SEO audit examines factors like keyword usage, link building, and content relevance.

Focus areas for SEO audits:

  • Keyword rankings – Are you targeting and ranking for relevant search terms?
  • On-page optimization – Are titles, meta descriptions, headers, and image alt text optimized?
  • Technical SEO – Are crawl errors, broken links, or poor site structure hindering search engines?
  • Backlink profile – Do you have a strong mix of high-quality, relevant backlinks?
  • Local SEO – Are your Google Business Profile and local citations accurate and consistent?
  • Content performance – Does your content align with user intent and rank for target queries?
  • Competitor analysis – How do your SEO efforts stack up against industry competitors?

3. Social Media Review

Social media marketing platforms are a key part of engaging with your audience and building brand awareness. During a digital marketing audit, assess your social media presence by looking at engagement metrics, follower growth, and the performance of individual posts.

Questions to ask:

  • Are you posting regularly?
  • Are your posts generating likes, shares, and comments?
  • Are you reaching your target audience?

4. Paid Advertising Analysis

PPC advertising, such as Google Ads or social media ads, can generate fast results when executed properly. Analyze your campaigns to ensure they’re delivering a good return on investment.

Key metrics to review:

  • Cost per click (CPC)
  • Click-through rate (CTR)
  • Conversion rates
Inclusive Marketing team

The Technical Side of Digital Marketing Audits

Tools to Consider

Performing a digital marketing audit requires tools that provide reliable data and insights. Some of the most commonly used tools include:

  • Google Analytics tracks website traffic, user behavior, and conversion rates.
  • SEMrush and Ahrefs help analyze SEO performance, track keywords, and monitor backlinks.
  • Hootsuite and Sprout Social provide insights into social media engagement and performance.
  • Google Ads Dashboard offers detailed metrics for paid advertising campaigns.

These tools help ensure that your audit is based on measurable data rather than guesswork.

Metrics That Matter

Certain KPIs and metrics provide the clearest picture of how your digital marketing efforts are performing. Pay close attention to:

  • Bounce rate – the percentage of visitors who leave your site after viewing only one page)
  • Time on page – how long users stay on your site, which indicates engagement levels)
  • Lead conversion rate – the percentage of visitors who take a desired action, such as filling out a form or making a purchase)

How Often Should You Perform a Digital Marketing Audit?

The frequency of audits depends on the scale of your campaigns and how quickly your industry changes. A quarterly audit works well for many businesses, while some may only need one every six months or once a year. Regular audits ensure you’re adapting to changes in algorithms, trends, and audience behavior.

Taking Action on Audit Findings

Once your audit is complete, it’s time to act on the insights you’ve gathered. Prioritize changes based on their potential impact. For example:

  • Update underperforming web pages with better content or design.
  • Adjust ad targeting settings to improve campaign performance.
  • Create fresh, engaging content to address gaps in your SEO strategy.

The key is to approach these updates strategically, focusing first on the changes that will provide the most significant benefits.
